Fab Filter Plugins
Coming out of TDM land, I've been trying everything. The total bundle was for me one that was instantly like yup, buying that. Watch all the tutorial videos to really get a sense of what all those plugs are capable of, saturn and timeless specifically go far beyond what you initially might think. I'm hoping to see a FF reverb, and a LFOtool style EG and maybe modulation in the EQ.
Fabfilter Mastering Bundle £344 $449. All three plug‑ins sound very good, and the compressor and limiter each have several character options to suit your music. Follow along as Mark Struthers takes you through the FabFilter Mixing and Mastering plug-in suite with audio examples so you hear what they all can do.
If they did that I could be pretty happy with only their plugs as far as inserts go (not that I wouldn't want others too, but.). Coming out of TDM land, I've been trying everything. The total bundle was for me one that was instantly like yup, buying that.

If they did that I could be pretty happy with only their plugs as far as inserts go (not that I wouldn't want others too, but.).Yeah their tutorials are like them, simple to understand and even somebody who had a hard time understanding how compression/equalizing works, they instantly switch a knob in their heads like.hey I understand now! A lot of my friends/students who are starting recording their music told me finally what they do is what they get cause they can see graphics on the flow and see what's happening plus they're so simple to use expecially for beginners who are not familiar with a gazillion different technical names. I like them - i said it before in another thread but their user interfaces are great; working with tools by ableton, valhalla and now fabfilter is just so straight forward.
The idea of putting the waveforms in fabfilter front and center and enabling me to not only hear, but see what is happening to the dynamics is a huge improvement to my workflow. It's much more useful than the fake brushed metal emulating the looks of analog gear found in other plugins.

To sum it up, those plugins might not be a class of its own in their respective fields, but the results are very far from lacking and considering price, workflow advantages and the overall value offered here I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the whole bundle. Furthermore given the detailed explainations and descriptions, as well as the easily readable waveform display, this should provide beginners with a better understanding for what's going on.
I've been using the pro plugins for over a year and have been really happy with the results. Pro-Q and Pro-G are my go-to plugins for eq and gating.
I tend to prefer clean eq's over coloring ones though. Pro-C sees heavy use, but there I have more options and and other compressors get used as well. Although I have a number of nice synths (and Logic isn't half bad on this department either), I have to applaud Twin. It's one killer synth with a ton of options. This brings me to FabFilter's aggressively nice pricing. I had the Pro bundle for a year, when this summer's sale came around.
25% off for everyone, but as a bundle owner I got practically 50% off on the rest of their plugins. That was a no brainer! One gripe I do have (using Logic as it is) that the visualization lags a bit, but this seems to be a DAW specific issue. Still occasionally frustrating but luckily you can turn these off and just listen.
What does it give vs the Sonnox plug-ins? Particularly the Limiters?IMO 2 different beasts, as I see it sonnox is like a cleaner version of l2/l2007 etc (or dirtier with the inflator/enhance option). IE you don't really detect compressorish pumping and when pushed what you hear is distortion more than anything else. Pro-L, when pushed starts to have more of a compressor effect than a distortion one.
I would say at moderate settings FF could be more natural but YMMV. Pro-L has a lot more latency than the sonnox. For me pro-q absolutely crushes the sonnox eq, but for me an software eq is about features, flexibility, workflow, MS options, metering and lin phase modes for parallel stuff. Pro-q wins in every one of those categories. Not a lot of mention in this thread for Saturn. This is an AMAZING plugin.
It's so much more than multiband distortion, the transient designer element is a whole other thing on it's own, as is the gate to comp knob. To me this is the kind of forward thinking I wan't in plugs, instead of say a pultec plugin that is a fixed combination of eq/saturation/resonance, it get's you under the hood where you can build your own custom effects. If FF made a killer reverb and maybe added breakpoint multistage syncable/gridable EG's (ala Xfer LFO tool), I could be pretty darn happy with their plugins alone. A real showstopper for me as I tend to put the limiter early in the mix. Anyway, thanks a lot for your answer.
Yeah as mentioned 750 and drops down to 450 in oversampling mode. The new BX is up there as well, it's seems like at least for now the newer smoother class of lims (to my ears at least) are higher in latency. Also I would put FG-X in the more distorted camp, but with sometimes amazing disto.it's 258 samples so again pretty high. All 3 of those are fairly high CPU usage as well. You might want to demo pro-c set to limit as well, it's fast enough and for in mix duties it has surprised me.
